Reopening Schools: Phase Three
-
Starting March 1, all students who currently attend school in-person/hybrid for two half-days per week will now attend school in person for four half-days per week. Students will remain in their current morning and afternoon groups.
-
Students who choose to continue participating in all virtual learning will maintain their current schedule.
-
On Wednesdays, all students will participate in virtual learning in the morning timeframe with their teacher. Afternoons are teacher prep time, meaning asynchronous learning for all students.

Q: What is the difference for students who are in-person/hybrid?
A: The schedule will not change other than adding two additional days to the in-person schedule. Students who attend in person will now only attend “Zoom Class” on Wednesday morning. They will be in person four days per week.
Q: What will change for students who are in all virtual learning?
A: The schedule will not change for current elementary virtual students (other than seeing more classmates on the Zoom) if your teachers teach “Zoomers” and “Roomers” in grades 4-12.
Q: Can I opt to move my child from virtual learning to the in-person/hybrid model?
A: You will be receiving a form to capture any changes you wish to make for your child. Please note for elementary students only, if you decide to move from virtual to in-person/hybrid, your teacher or school assignment may change. This may be necessary to ensure compliance with current social distancing guidelines.
Q: Can in-person/hybrid students choose to remain in a two day per week (Phase Two) model and not move to the four day per week model (Phase Three)?
A: Unfortunately due to challenges around cohorting, contact tracing and school safety logistics, all students who wish to participate in the in-person/hybrid model must stay on the four days per week schedule.
Q: Are there any changes to transportation availability in Phase Three?
A: As in Phase Two, transportation is reserved for special education students and students who are not geographically located near their campus, Yountville, Pope Valley, etc. If your student is unable to attend class due to transportation issues, please contact your site principal and the district can determine any accommodations can be made.
Q: Is it possible to switch groups from AM to PM or vice versa?
A: The AM/PM groups were all designed to balance class size and to stay within the public health recommendations. Therefore, requests for changes are not generally considered unless circumstances merit otherwise. Please contact your site principal to discuss any schedule change.
Q: Will there be any additional childcare options offered in Phase Three?
A: Unfortunately, due to the limited number of students we can have on a campus and our strict safety protocols - we are not able to expand childcare offerings at this time. However, we are exploring potential expansion for a later date with our childcare partners.
Q: Will there be any intervention services offered before or after school?
A: We are hopeful that increased funding from the state is available soon so we can offer intervention services to those students who need it. We are also requesting guidance from the state on funding summer school programs that would address student learning loss that occurred during the pandemic.
Q: When can we expect to move to Phase Four?
A: Moving to Phase Four, when all students are in-person and full-time requires a major change in public health requirements. Since there will not be any virtual learning, we need to accomodate all our students on campus. This shift cannot occur until we do not have social distancing or cohoring requirements that currently limit capacities in all our classrooms and campuses. As such, NVUSD will remain in Phase Three for the remainder of the 2020/21 school year.
NVUSD opened our campuses with our official entry into Phase Two on October 26.
