Language Strategies for Academic Instruction

This is a great resource for ensuring that our students maintain a high academic register when speaking in class (group/whole class/partner).  Many teachers have commented on its usefulness as a reminder to them to maintain their own high academic register in the classroom.

Sarah Villegas has an extended Academic Language Handbook that she can copy if you are interested in more stems with situational "if" statements embedded. The handbook was designed as a reference during academic discussions, but could be used during academic writing as well. Students have to use the words orally before they can replicate this register in their writing.
