History
Bel Aire Park Elementary opened its doors in 1978 serving the thriving North Napa neighborhood of the same name. In the fall 1989 a new Alternative Elementary Program opened on the Bel Aire Park campus. During the 2009-10 school year, Bel Aire Park traditional and Bel Aire Park Alternative programs merged with a new vision to create a Magnet Program as an alternative to a more traditional school program with the addition of a clearly defined model for school improvement. The theme of our magnet is the Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate Organization. (IBO) This is a proven program that has been created with the best of international educational methods from around the world.
Learning Environment
At Bel Aire, we believe that to prepare students for the future in the 21st century we need a well-rounded curriculum that addresses the needs of the whole child. We have several special programs in the arts, writing, science and technology that help build important skills in problem-solving, creativity, research, and communication.
Academic Environment
Our new school program has three main components:
Inquiry-based instruction: students get in depth into essential concepts by asking questions, experimenting and exploring, researching, and connecting to their life experiences.
Internationalism: we focus on the attributes of a learner that will help students to be successful anywhere in the world and give them access to unlimited choices for their future.
Action: applying knowledge to real life, authentic projects and tasks and when possible using our knowledge skills to be of service to our community and the world.
Parent School Partnership
Parent participation is a huge component of Bel Aire Park Magnet School. Our parents are involved in all areas of the school – working in classrooms, supporting school events and committees. As a public school of choice as well as a neighborhood school, we want all families to become familiar with our program and participate in a variety of ways to help us create a rigorous, engaging school program that meets the individual needs of all students.
