Introducing... Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Napa Valley Unified School District, in partnership with NapaLearns, is pleased to announce the first annual BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Fair, currently scheduled for August 2nd, 2013; location to be announced.

 

Vendors at this event will be offering discounts and low or no-interest loans for your convenience.

 

A purchase from the BYOD Fair guarantees that your child will have an approved device for use in NVUSD schools. Visit the Fair, and have your questions answered about technology-integrated instruction and cyber-safety at school.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE - Parent Chiharu Akaboshi recently brought Japaesee culture to Room K at El Centro Elementary School. On this day students learned to write their names in Japanese. Students pictured are Hayden Hulquist, Lindy Mcdermott, Makenzie Madsen, Aiden Davis, Aina and Kanna Akaboshi. ASK THE LORAX - The Earth's most special friend, The Lorax, visited Napa Valley Language Academy after he heard they had won $500 from Napa Recycle and Waste for being really GREEN in 2013! STUDENT PRINCIPAL - Elizabeth Gonzales, Principal, El Centro Elementary School pictured with second grader Sam Loomis. Sam was the acting principal for the day, an honor won at the school's annual dinner dance, silent auction fundraiser. GIVE THEM A TEST, THEY'LL RUN A MILE - Shearer fifth grade students get ready to start the one mile run. The run is just part of the way fifth grader's physical fitness is tested by the state of California. GOT WORMS? - NVLA 2nd grader, Frida Diaz-Esquivel, learns about the importance of worms in NVLA's after school enrichment class, thanks to the Worm Lady of Napa, Debbie Stevens. EARTH DAY AT OXBOW - West Park Elementary Recycling Rangers (L-R: Corbin, Isabel and Presleigh) help remind people know that if you got it at Oxbow it can be recycled or composted during Napa's Earth Day celebration at the Oxbow Public Market. EARTH DAY - Kinder students at Shearer Charter school celebrate Earth Day by planting a Sunflower House. TEASEL TEAM - Ms Jouaneh's 9th graders from New Tech High school helped the Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District's restoration project at the Napa River Eco Reserve pulling out Teasel. Pictured from left, Jose Santana-Avina, Macelo Martinez, Joseph Cazares, Alexis Gamez, Carlos Diaz-Valencia, Ottmar Navarrette and lying on the job is Robert Sando. PUTTIN' AROUND - 2nd Grade students at Shearer Charter School learned how to make putty by reading steps in a technical procedure and following the directions. These students decided to create a large bubble by placing their straws into the putty and blowing together. Creativity, collaboration and critical thinking all 21st century skills are taking place during this lesson. AQUATIC BUDGET - Six 8th graders at River middle school did a project about maintaining the balance of aquatic resources in the Napa River. From a bake sale they donated $75.21 to Friends of the Napa River. DEAD WEIGHT - Jameson Jessup, a freshman at Napa High School competes and wins trophies for the dead lift and bench press at a weightlifting competition in Chico, CA on Saturday, March 9, 2013. He now qualifies for World championship in Reno in November. Jameson is on the football, wrestling and track and field team at Napa High. DO YOU LIKE BROCCOLI? - Yair, Marilyn and Juan, a few of the Shearer students who participate in Napa County Farm Bureau Agriculture in the Classroom, sure do. Students receive healthy treats once a month that are accompanied by nutrition lessons. Thanks Napa County Farm Bureau. American Canyon High School student Derrick Hughes, left, talks with Joanne Chen, a representative for the New York Life Insurance company, at the school's first career fair, which was held on Wednesday. READING FOR BIKES - Three happy students, Jennifer, Carlos and Arizabeth, are winners of new bikes thanks to turning in 100% of their reading logs this trimester. Other winners received backpacks and ice cream gift certificates in this random drawing of 100% readers at Shearer Elementary School. SHEARER'S GOT TALENT - Dyan, Cruz and Ashanti were some of the winners in the visual arts division of Shearer's fourth annual talent show. Eight winners were selected from over 60 entries. The show also included performances by talented Shearer staff and students. Elise MaHaffey of Napa competes in the high jump during their meet against Vintage at Vintage High School on Wednesday afternoon. Martina Sanchez, a fourth-grade student at Napa Valley Language Academy, describes how she prepares for the California State Test. She says that chewing gum and removing her shoes as she studies, helps her relax.
